November 7, 2010 was the last day of NU107’s broadcast. Here are just of some photographs of the last NU107 jocks taken in the course of a several week period before the shutdown. I can say that everyone was sad, some pretend to be happy just to get by. They are my heroes, having stayed until the very end working despite the undesirable circumstances — all for the love of music and for the promise to fulfill a dream job which in reality, is not all that heavenly.
Exactly one year ago we anticipated dead air at the stroke of midnight. It is said that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself, but when complete silence was heard, nothing can compare to the pain coupled with the daunting thought that we will continue to live a life without our source of music guided by the friendly voices that point us toward the right path.
Everything turned out okay in the end. This country’s passion for music is too great to put down. Despite everything, no feeling can replicate the ordeal of making something continue to work, knowing very well that all efforts will be for naught. That was the general feeling in the last days of NU107.
When something you’ve been thinking about all day surprises you

This made me teary eyed. Thank you Kat.
NU107 was on my mind the whole day and this request surprised me. I think this was about the time I personally found out that NU was shutting down, or maybe even earlier. I was told, but the news I got I had to keep a secret. I wasn’t at all an official employee, but I was there everyday. I woke up everyday and went home everyday as if going to NU107 was my work. It was my second home.
When my profession as a photographer grew, I took more and more photos, but a lot of special moments I missed documenting. I took them for granted because magic happens everyday in NU and I thought we would all be there forever.
I have a lot of special content though, mostly in the last few weeks of NU107. Holding a camera was my shield, like it was a movie project I was a part of and people needed BTS or stills. It made me sort of forget that something bad was about to happen and I was probably hoping that one day I would wake up from it. The world, I think, isn’t prepared to see these yet, so I’m keeping them safe for now.
I still consider myself an outsider, but I am thankful that everyone who was from NU107 there treated me like I was part of it. If I tell this to one of them they will only tell me,“ANO KA BA?! KASAMA KA DITO!” (actually I can imagine Gelo screaming at me saying this.) I wrote something similar to this post in PULP’s issue earlier this year.
