My Top 11 Best Gigs of 2011
Posted on December 31, 2011

A great gig for me doesn’t always produce a great photo. But when the moment is there, sometimes it’ll just naturally come across in the pictures. Like my last post of Top 10 Random Music Moments, this post is personal and features just some concerts that I’ve attended which were memorable to me.
The STAGG Awards
18 October 2011
Last July, The Music Source asked me to take portraits of endorsers of STAGG. It was also to prepare for this year’s STAGG AWARDS. I kind of miss music award shows, given that in about 11 days it would have been a year since the last NU107 Rock Awards.
I love events that give accolade to the Filipino musician. We are a country full of brilliant artists and we need to be constantly reminded of that fact and no matter what everyone else says. Appreciation of one’s craft is one of the best things that could ever happen to an artist.
The Music Source started the first ever STAGG Awards to promote Filipino musicians. Last year, it got more than 40,000 votes through facebook from both musician and fans alike.
2010 winners were Buwi Meneses (Franco / Parokya Ni Edgar), Niño Avenido (Greyhoundz), Caren Mangahan (General Luna), Ocho Toleran (Franco), Karmi Santiago (Novus Luna / Chicosci), Franco Reyes and General Luna.

That’s Bel Sayson of The Bel & Joey show on the right, he’s the Head of Business Development at The Music Source.
You can find some of the official photos at THE MUSIC SOURCE’s Facebook page and on ‘STIG Magazine’s 3rd issue which you can download HERE

The 2011 Stagg Awards voting is ongoing and will end on October 30, 2011 at THE MUSIC SOURCE WEBSITE. Awards night will be held on November 10, 2011 at the Music Museum.
Some of these are just outtakes which I find funny especially Nathan, Otep and Robert’s shots.
Mike Elgar, Nathan Azarcon & Junji Lerma discussing their ‘battle of the bands’ days. One of those events was held in CSA where they all first encountered each other. When Nathan saw Mike Elgar play with his band he asked, “Who is this guy?” and someone answered in reverential hushed whisper, “Si Mike Elgar yan”.
He kept on repeating that line and it sounded funny, like it was dangerous to utter the name “Mike Elgar”.
Nathan joked around and said his band beat Mike’s because he was friends with the judges and no one yet knew who Mike was.
“Sino yan?” Looking at the really awesome guitar player.
“Si Mike Elgar yan!” they all whispered again and again.
Meanwhile, Vic is sleeping on the table by the corner of the room.

Nathan Azarcon of @HIJOmusic. Last night was my first time to see them live. I asked them why they named the band HIJO. Nathan said Vic thought of it, but he wanted to call it something else - NLTR - or Nathan Learns To Rock.
LOL
I showed him this photo and said I got a jump shot. He said next time he’ll bring a basketball. Nyahaha
