My Top 11 Best Gigs of 2011

Posted on December 31, 2011

A great gig for me doesn’t always produce a great photo. But when the moment is there, sometimes it’ll just naturally come across in the pictures. Like my last post of Top 10 Random Music Moments, this post is personal and features just some concerts that I’ve attended which were memorable to me.

Last night I saw my friend Mona perform at the Red Horse Rakrakan event. I didn’t even know she was in a band called Philia!

I saw Kelvin who told me she was performing and all along I thought he was joking. Then I saw Mona who suddenly hugged me before she went up onstage in nervous excitement and told me she was scared. But she rocked the crowd and handled it like a pro.

I’m still sorting out the rest of the Rakrakan photos from last night and if you missed it, you can always catch the Red Horse Beer Muziklaban Grand Finals on January 28, 2012 in Aseana City. Hopefully I’ll see you guys there as well.

The Muziklaban Semi-Finals (GMA Region)

It’s been such a long time since we associated rain with fun. Even a little rain can trigger a bit of fear. Sometimes I try to recall playing under the rain when I was a kid and bravely taking in the sound of thunder. I wonder where that all went.

I’m posting this now because it’s one of the few moments I’ve encountered shooting in the rain and leaving with a good memory. We didn’t have a good memory of the rain again fairly recently so it’s great to remember this because I was running around chasing after awesome moments.

The greatest rock and roll events, even if producers think it’s a logistical nightmare include the ones that happen in the rain. I mean, take Glastonbury for example, or Fuji Rock Fest. It takes a certain kind of fan to brave the weather, a true rock and roll fan at that.

Mud is still on my shoes until now, because everytime I see it I remember how much fun this was. Although partly in reality, I just have no time to clean them (I try to wear them out whenever it rains so it gets instant wash LOL).

I must say it’s difficult to shoot in the rain and thankfully it stopped later on (because I really needed to do my job well) but of course when you’re all dirty and your socks are all wet, you barely notice if it is still raining.

My 2nd Album Cover Art: Monologue Whispers by Japsuki

It’s my second time to be commissioned to work on album cover. I’ve always wanted to do this. The first one happened around the same time last year for The Camerawalls

This year, Japs Sergio asked me to make one and allowed me to do WHATEVER I WANT!!! Hahaha best job ever!

I’m no expert at this but I’m really thankful these musicians have trusted me enough to take a chance at this sort of thing. As much as possible I want it to be an actual photograph.

The environment above is from an ACTUAL PHOTO. Thank you to Gelo Lagasca of the Lowtechs for helping us out with layout and graphic design.

Check out the larger, square version of the cover design below and also how the photo was made.
