My name is Niña Sandejas. I am duly educated in fashion, but I'd rather take photos of musicians and go to concerts for a living.

The rest of the photos are still uploading. I have not the energy to sort through all of them since I spent my Valentine’s with friends in Attivo and Bugsy’s in Makati tonight. Needless to say, I am piss drunk at the moment and have no clue if I’m doing everything right, or if all of this is a dream.
I went to Trivium and shot them from the audience area. I stayed and shot for only three songs. For portfolio purposes I tend to do that to myself for practice. If I don’t get any good shot, I berate myself to death for not getting any. Yes I am a masochist.
I wanted to stay longer and watch the gig but my friends were waiting for me tonight so I really had to leave early. I’ve never shot a metal band before so I sort of came up with an additional rule when shooting this genre.
For normal gigs I do this:
1) Research on the artist and their music
2) Check out their performances on youtube and figure out their moves.
3) Study the lights and stage set-up, or ask around if you can if you’ve got no idea
I did none of those tonight because I’m sorry to say I have no idea who Trivium is, but they are technically adept players based on my observation (too bad the sound at A-venue isn’t quite on the A-list in terms of quality), and I just needed to get MUSE off my head since I have to write about Kasabian pretty soon (I don’t know the connection, but I’m trying my best to veer my mind off things).
There’s additional research I have to do when shooting metal bands.
4) Study shampoo commercials.
Francis Abraham is by far the best commercial / advertising photographer in the country and he is very well known for his shampoo ads. He’s very good with capturing magnificence of hair which is very hard to do. I’m sure he would have aced this head banging gig if he had the interest in music photography.
I’ve worked with him once, he shot me as a model for Fudge Magazine. If I had long hair at the time he would have made me flip mine, but the other models got to do it.
EDIT - Yes, CARLO CASAS WAS THERE TOO. He assisted Francis A. :) Haha
Good night everyone, I’m off to head spinning slumber.
